Cost of Housing in Beijing

One of the most exciting parts of your adventure in China is finding an apartment! Finding an apartment seems like a daunting task, but in reality is quite fast and simple. One thing that is nice about having the option to choose your own apartment in Beijing is that you can choose to live where you want and spend as much or as little as you would like.

As a general rule, the closer the accommodation is to the city centre, the more expensive it will be - so if housing is proving too pricey, move toward the outter rings. Beijing is organized according to ring roads, where the first ring road is closest to the city centre.

Estimated housing costs in Beijing

    Rent a 2BDR apt. between 4th and 5th Ring Road: 4,500 RMB

    Rent a 2BDR apt. between 2nd and 3rd Ring Road: 7,000 RMB

Expats should also anticipate paying for utilities in Beijing. Electricity and water are not exorbitant, though monthly costs will obviously vary according to consumption. You will find that utility costs are much cheaper in China than in the West.
